Physical Distancing due to Corona, Online Illegal Logging Actor

In an effort to prevent the transmission or transmission of the corona virus or Covid-19, the Sendawar Kutai Barat District Court Judge Assembly took part in carrying out Physical Distancing in conducting hearings on illegal logging cases.

The illegal logging case trial with defendant Mansur bin Delewa (50) from South Sulawesi was held via video conference on Monday (3/30/2020).

In general, the court will present the defendant and all parties in the same courtroom.

However, this time all parties involved in the hearing in the West Kutai Court Judges' Panel were only presented online.

The defendant attended the trial of the illegal logging case online from Sendawar Class II Penitentiary, West Kutai Regency.

Meanwhile, the East Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Public Prosecutor's Office, through investigators, also presented witnesses in the same way, including investigators from the Kalimantan Region LHK Law Enforcement.

Case being tried
The Head of the Kalimantan Region Lakk GKHUM, Subhan said that the case began when the defendant was found to have, control and transport timber from the results of illegal logging.

Investigators ensnared Mansur bin Delewa with Article 12 Letter e Jo. Article 83 Paragraph 1 and Paragraph 2 Letter b, Law No. 18 of 2013 concerning Prevention and Eradication of Forest Destruction, with a maximum penalty of 5 years and a maximum fine of Rp 2.5 billion.

Why is the trial using video conference?
Indonesia has decided to follow the advice of the World Health Organization (WHO) and conduct physical distancing to prevent transmission and break the chain of transmission of Covid-19.

That is why, all activities that trigger a crowd are no longer allowed.

The Director General of LHK Law Enforcement Rasio Ridho Sani said that the use of video conferencing was a breakthrough in law enforcement.

The Ratio Ridho Sani said that despite limitations due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the law enforcement process against perpetrators of environmental and forestry crimes continues.

This shows that the state continues to exist to protect natural resources, and the rights of people to get a good and healthy environment.
